About
I am originally from Baltimore, MD and migrated to the DMV to attend Howard University. After graduation, I worked as a photo-assistant to the top commercial photographers in the area to learn the craft from the ground up. After several apprenticeships, I started my career in earnest working for George Mason University as the university photographer. While at Mason, I did freelance assignments for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the National Cooperative Bank.
Also, during my tenure at George Mason University I earned a Master’s degree in Visual Information Technology, which is the study of 3D Modeling, Web Design, Graphic Design. After leaving George Mason, I did a short stint at America Online as a photo-editor in which I was heavily involved in the photo coverage of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. During this 10 year hiatus from photography, I worked as a graphic designer for multiple agencies within the Defense Department that included: the Defense Health Agency, the Washington Head Quarter Services, The Defense Logistics Agency, and The Department of the Army. This time away from photography, was very beneficial as it allowed me to remain a visual communicator, while adding perspective and additional skills.
Now that I am working as a photographer again, I am able to see projects from three perspectives: the client view, the end use, and the production of photography. Having this 50,000 foot view better enables me to guide a client through the creative process and speak to their needs as opposed to being concerned about my own.
At the end of the day, it’s always about the client, never about the artist or vendor…
